Nationalist dials up the Rage on USB flash drives, delivering near SATA SSD speeds

Patriot Supersonic Rage Pro

It's not very frequently that a USB flash drive warrants writing about, but Patriot's Supersonic Rage Professional is an exception. Information technology's an even faster interlingual rendition of its predecessor, the Rage 2, which occupies a spot in our roundup of the best USB blink drives because of its impressive speed.

The new Rage Pro kicks things finished a pass, according to its rated specifications. It's a USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive that purportedly delivers busy 420MB/s of sequential read performance, to go along with up to 8,000 IOPs for 4K random reads. There's no mention of write performance, though as a point of point of reference, the Rage 2 (later renamed Rage Elite) is rated to write at up to 300MB/s. I imagine it's similar (if not better) for the Rage Favoring.

These are theoretical ceilings, mind you, and actual performance is likely to be lower. On the read side, however, the Rage 2 came surprisingly close to spinning its wheels at its liquid ecstasy milometer, hitting 354MB/s in our testing (large files). Writes were a bit further off at 187MB/s, though quieten expansive for a flash drive.

The Rage Pro owes part of its speed claims to a native feature in Windows 10, USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP), which the repel as wel supports. According to Patriot, this boosts overall performance with 70 percent faster reads and 40 percent faster writes, compared to Bulk-Only Transport (BOT) flash lamp drives.

"The Craze Pro is also optimized every bit a boot drive for Windows OS and opposite in operation systems, while the extra IOPS and random 4K learn and write hurrying provides first-class reliability and faster boot times. The Rage Pro can also beryllium an alternative solution when users need an independent saving drive for laptops and desktops," Patriot says.

You won't get fancy features ilk built-in encryption, just an atomic number 13 housing and an LED index. The rive Hera is simply on speed. Coincidentally, I recently went happening the hunt for a new flash driving force, and nearly pulled the trigger on the Rage 2/Elite group, which is consistently recommended when performance is the top thoughtfulness.

Bucket along comes at a price, and every bit you power expect, these are non the cheapest gaudy drives around. Thither are trey capacities: 128GB ($28), 256GB ($50), and 512GB ($90). All iii are available now happening Amazon and Newegg.

Paul Lilly

Apostle Paul has been playing PC games and raking his knuckles on computer ironware since the Commodore 64. He does non have any tattoos, merely thinks IT would be cool to have one that reads LOAD"*",8,1. In his off prison term, he rides motorcycles and wrestles alligators (only i of those is true).
